The more I dwelve into house/electronic/techno music the more I seem to like minimalistic and raw soundscapes. Today I was searching for new house tracks from Beatport and I was actually kinda looking for something soulful to get my groove on but, instead, I found Easy Changes. 

Kilrill Sil and Denis Guttersnipe live in Moscow, Russia, and they both have been dj'ing and producing before their common project started off in 2005. Two years after getting together they released two EPs, Magic Tunes and Caviar, almost simultaneously on Foundsound records and got Moscow's attention immediately.

The EPs have been referred to as captivating, mesmerizing, brilliant, gracious... The list of positive adjectives seems endless.



Another two yeats later it was time for the next two releases. Karen EP was released on Nervmusic which is one of the key labels in the Russian techno scene. Easy Changes is the core of this movement that organizes events in Moscow and other cities that bring together a circle of techno fans. The other release of 2009 is called Føroyskur Dansur EP and it was on Mean Records.

I'm not sure if these two EP's got as much attention as the previous ones. At least reviews on the latter ones are harder to find. The ones I found are very positive, though. Karen shows a more twisted and darker side of Easy Changes, even erotic. On both albums, the duo's style is identifiable but still, every track has a unique hook.

The newest two releases came out in 2010, Supposed Dolls EP on Nervmusic and Australia EP on 31337 Records. Both EPs have a wonderfully rich acoustic texture which I think is something of a signature of these guys. Subtle changes within tracks create stories or musical journeys that are served with funky beats. It has been said that their music is a unique symbiosis of rhythmical patterns in a world of mysterious sounds and sub-minded mood currents (I'm not sure if I completely understand what that means but it sounds cool). Some one might describe their style as bleep-blap-ping with a back kick or just noise but, for me, it's a pretty effin amazing bleep-blap. It's definitely minimal yet a lot more complex and groovy than you might expect from minimal techno.
