Mic Newman / Fantastic Man

now playing: Fantastic Man - Groove With You

There are two kinds of creative. Those who speak loudly and publicly about their work, and those who let their work speak for it self. Mic Newman falls into the second category. Billed as ‘One To Watch’ by Juno Plus, Mic is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most exiting talents to emerge out of Melbourne’s flourishing dance scene, with his exquisitely deep and incisive take on House music.

European born Producer/DJ Mic Newman made the journey at a young age to Melbourne Australia, a city that is deeply embedded with a culture of diversity and talent – having produced some of the world’s finest musicians and DJ’s alike.

With a strong musical upbringing and aptitude to compose and produce music, Mic took his creative ideas to the next level shortly after beginning his DJ career. His hard work and determination in the studio drew attention of esteemed Australian house label, Vicious and in 2007 they released his debut single Rhythm To Ya Hips – an electro smash hit that caused waves at home and abroad, making its way on to various compilations, including the coveted Ministry of Sound ‘Sessions’. In the same year he collaborated with the local producer Lewie Day to release their Hermione EP on 8bit Records in Germany, and it drew support from some of the world’s leading underground artists like Marc Romboy, Audiofly and Steve Lawler.

In 2009 Newman thoroughly breaked into the scene with key releases and remixes. His Booka Shade remix on Get Physical was an eye-opener and, even more, the Sizzled Sally EP paved his way to recognition. Sizzled Sally is one of the highest selling releases on murmur Records up to this day, it was named EP of the month in Berlin's Raveline Magazine and it caused a flurry of hype in the underground community.

Ever since, Newman has been using his creativity to the fullest and releasing multiple EPs in the short run. Even though he admits to be a perfectionist, it doesn't seem to slow him down. In 2009, he put out The Aries EP, Audio on Loan EP and Whatever Kind EP and many remixes in addition to the ones mentioned above.

His subsequent releases - Solaris EP with Geddes and Not Enough Sleep EP on Jimpster’s Freerange, Tsuba Records and Live East, Die Young on 20:20 vision's sub-divisional, Fina Records - quickly gained Mic praise from luminaries such as Giles Peterson, Move D, DJ T, Radio Slave, Jamie Jones, Laurent Garnier, Ben Watt and Ralph Lawson. Solaris EP reached No. 2 in the deep house chart on Beatport which, once again, showed the commercial potential of the critically acclaimed producer.

2011 hasn't been any different, except for the growing interest and success. So far he has released The Fidelity & Casualty EP on Freerange Records and Recorded in the Garage EP on murmur Records. He has remixed, among others, Kimbra and The Bionics and with a string of releases and remixes yet to come, Mic is continuing to cement his name and evolving sound firmly in electronic music's macrocosm.

But, not content with this success, Mic has launched an illusive alias, 'Fantastic Man’. According to his own words, Fantastic Man is just a guy who likes to sample big commercial artists. His first Juno chart topping release on Wolf Music - Look This Way, along with his brilliant Fantastic Man debut EP, Plastic Fantastic, on Detroit label Kolour LTD have gained rave reviews from fans and DJs alike. With thousands of plays on his soundcloud and numerous praising reviews all over the internet, it seems very likely that Fantastic Man will become something big and add to Newman's success.

Behind the console, Mic continues to solidify himself as a DJ in demand off the back of such a prolific release schedule, frequently showcasing his talent around the country while also holding long standing residencies at Melbourne club icons Revolver and One Six One. His tireless passion, ever growing insight and creativity allow his DJ sets to consistently captivate his audiences both at home and abroad.

Talented AND cute.
